Hydnocarpus Laurifolia Extract and Oil (Calmogara)

The oil from the seeds of Chaulmoogra has been widely used in Indian and Chinese traditional medicine for the treatment of leprosy. It entered early Western medicine in the 19th-century before the era of sulfones and antibiotics for the treatment of several skin diseases and leprosy.

Chaulmoogra is powerful herb and its seeds are used to formulate medicines. Ayurveda uses chaulmoogra powder, oil, emulsion, or ointment on the skin to treat skin problems including psoriasis and eczema. This is not surprising since the first drugs used for treating leprosy used chemicals found in chaulmoogra seeds. When applied to the skin is used for other skin disorders and conditions. Chaulmoogra are being used in Ayurveda for more than 4,000 years in the treatment of leprosy, rheumatism, eczema, leucoderma, scrofula, wounds, sprains, sores and bruises. Today is also used for harmonizing the pigmentation of the skin.
